Research Interests

1) Inorganic Reaction Mechanisms. The Department has been recognised internationally for its outstanding research work in Reaction Mechanisms. Twenty-six students have received postgraduate degrees (M. Phil and Ph. D) and eighty papers have been published in international journals in this area. Currently three other staff members Dr. N. McKnight, Dr. P. Maragh and Dr. D. Dixon are also involved in this area of research. Present activities are in five major areas:

a) Synthesis and Reactivity of Novel Polynuclear Complexes,

b) Electron Transfer involving Biological Reductants,

c) Reactivity of Oxoanions

d) Transfer Chemical Potentials of complex cations and anions.

e) Nitric Oxide releasing compounds and their biological applications

Selected publications

  1. Pesticides. Research in this area is in collaboration with the Department of Life Sciences. During the past ten years, the Department has become active in Pesticide Chemistry. One Ph.D. and three M. Phil students have graduated, and three students are currently working for M.Phil degrees.
