Calculation of Magnetic Moment

1 2

In the Laboratory Experiment involving the Gouy method, you are required to make 7 weighings from which the magnetic moment can be determined.

The following form can be used to do the necessary calculation:
Enter the weights in gram.

1) weight of the empty Gouy tube with the magnet switched OFF
W1
2) weight, with the magnet switched ON
W2
3) weight of the Gouy tube filled to a marked height with water, magnet OFF
W3

Select the calibrant used in your measurements.
a) Hg[Co(CN)4
b) [Ni(en)3]S2O3

4) weight of the tube, filled to the same height with calibrant, magnet OFF
W4
5) weight, with the magnet switched ON
W5
6) weight of the tube, filled to the same height with your sample, magnet OFF
W6
7) weight, with the magnet switched ON.
W7

In addition to these 7 numbers, you will need the following information:

8) the RMM of your sample
RMM
9) its diamagnetic correction value
DC
Enter the temperatures in Kelvin
6) the temperature of the calibrant
T1
11) the temperature of your sample.
