BIOCHEMICAL TESTS OF LIVER FUNCTION
|
A panel of biochemical measurements are routinely performed in the clinical laboratories on plasma or serum specimens (Table 28.2). This group of tests are usually, and incorrectly, described as liver 'function' tests, which commonly include the measurements of:
|
- bilirubin,
- albumin,
- transaminases: aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT).
- alkaline phosphatase (ALP), sometimes in conjunction with:
- γ-glutamyl transferase (γGT).
|
(Reference ranges for these tests are given in the legend to Table 28.2).
