INTRODUCTION

Blood functions as a transport and distribution system for the body, delivering essential nutrients to tissues and at the same time removing waste products. It is composed of an aqueous solution containing molecules of varying sizes and a number of cellular elements. Some of the components of blood perform important roles in the body's defense against external insult and in the repair of damaged tissues.
